Child Find Notice (K–8) — DBAE
Do & Be Arts Academy of Excellence (DBAE) is a public charter school and a public agency (LEA) responsible for Child Find for our K–8 school community. Child Find is the process of identifying, locating, and evaluating children who are suspected of having a disability and who may need special education and related services.

Who this applies to at DBAE (K–8)
Child Find supports:
-
Students currently enrolled at DBAE (Kindergarten–8th grade) who may be experiencing learning, developmental, physical, or behavioral challenges that may require additional supports.
-
Children in our community whose parents/guardians believe they may have a disability and want help starting the evaluation process.
Note: DBAE is a K–8 school. If a referral involves a student outside of the grades we serve, we will still provide guidance and connect families to the appropriate Nevada resources and next steps.

Areas of concern (examples for K–8)
A referral may be appropriate if there are concerns in one or more areas, such as:
Reading, writing, or math progress (significant difficulty despite supports)
Speech or language (pronunciation, understanding, expressive language)
Social-emotional needs (anxiety, withdrawal, difficulty with peer relationships)
Behavior and self-regulation (impulsivity, frequent conflicts, repeated suspensions)
Attention/executive functioning (organization, working memory, sustained focus)
Motor/physical development (fine motor, gross motor, mobility)
Vision/hearing concerns impacting school performance
Daily living/adaptive skills that affect learning and independence at school
How to request a Child Find evaluation (referral process)
Parents/guardians, caregivers, or school staff may request an evaluation:
Submit a Child Find / Special Education Referral Request to DBAE (email, phone, or in person).
DBAE will respond to review concerns and explain the process and supports available.
Parent/guardian written consent is required before any formal evaluation begins.
Once consent is received, DBAE completes an initial evaluation within Nevada-required timelines (generally 45 school days, unless a documented exception applies).
A team (including the parent/guardian) reviews the results to determine whether the student qualifies and what supports are needed (e.g., an IEP if eligible).
What happens if a student qualifies?
If a student is found eligible, DBAE will:
develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) (or applicable service plan),
provide special education instruction and related services as needed,
partner with families to monitor progress and update supports.

DBAE School Performance Plan
All schools in Nevada must provide an annual school performance plan that leverages stakeholder feedback to drive goals for the school. DBAE is a first year school, therefore, the school has not yet been evaluated. The first status check will take place in February of 2026.
In compliance with federal and state law, Nevada’s K-12 Accountability Portal provides detailed information about each school’s student and staff demographics and school performance rating, a star-rating system based on the Nevada School Performance Framework (NSPF). We are currently not a rated school, since we are in our first year/first few months of being open.
