Founding K-8th Grade Teaching Assistant

Role Summary

As a Founding Teaching Assistant (TA) at DBAE, you support a joyful, safe, and academically rigorous learning environment grounded in arts integration, project-based learning (PBL), and restorative practices. You help implement classroom routines, provide small‑group and one‑on‑one support, facilitate transitions and supervision, and partner with teachers to ensure every student can do and be their best.

  • Instructional Support: Provides targeted small‑group/1:1 support; reinforces lessons; uses teacher-provided materials and pacing.
     

  • Culture & Behavior: Implements Teach Like a Champion (TLAC) routines and restorative justice (RJ) practices; maintains calm, consistent expectations.
     

  • Arts-Integrated Mindset: Encourages creative expression and helps connect arts to core content.
     

  • Inclusion & Equity: Supports students with diverse learning needs (SPED/ELL/MLL); follows accommodations/modifications per teacher direction and student plans.
     

  • Communication: Uses clear, professional communication with students, staff, and families; supports outreach via ClassDojo as directed.
     

  • Reliability & Initiative: Punctual, prepared, solutions‑oriented, and adaptable in a startup school environment.
     

  • Data & Tech: Assists with assessments (e.g., MAP, i‑Ready) and classroom technology per staff guidance; protects student data (FERPA).
     

Key Responsibilities

  1. Classroom Instructional Support
     

    • Reinforce instruction during whole-group, small-group, and independent work.
       

    • Implement TLAC techniques (e.g., Threshold, Strong Start, Positive Framing, No Opt Out) to support engagement.
       

    • Prepare materials, centers, and manipulatives; support arts‑integrated tasks and PBL activities.
       

  2. Student Supervision & Safety
     

    • Supervise hallways, arrival/dismissal, recess, lunch, and transitions per assignments.
       

    • Maintain safety by following DBAE protocols, RJ discipline flowchart, and staff directions; escalate safety concerns promptly.
       

  3. Inclusion & SPED/ELL Support
     

    • Implement teacher-directed accommodations/modifications and behavior plans.
       

    • Document support provided as directed (e.g., daily notes, logs) while maintaining confidentiality (FERPA/IDEA).
       

  4. Assessment & Data Support
     

    • Set up devices, materials, and testing environments for assessments (e.g., MAP, i‑Ready); proctor per guidelines.
       

    • Support data collection and organization as directed by the teacher/coach.
       

  5. Family & Community Partnership
     

    • Support teacher-led communication to families (e.g., reminders in ClassDojo, event logistics).
       

    • Help prepare student work/exhibitions and arts showcases.
       

  6. Operations & Founding Tasks
     

    • Assist with classroom organization, bulletin boards, inventory, and common-space upkeep.
       

    • Participate in trainings/meetings scheduled within part‑time hours when requested.
       

Minimum Qualifications (Recommended)

​

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or 60 college credits preferred).
     

  • Experience working with children in K–8 settings (school, after‑school, youth arts, camps, etc.).
     

  • Comfort supporting arts-integrated learning and PBL (training provided).
     

  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
     

  • Pass fingerprint/background check and TB screening per Nevada requirements.
     

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.
     

Work Hours & Conditions

​

  • Up to 20 hours/week; specific schedules are assigned by the supervising teacher/leadership based on school need.
     

  • Hours are not guaranteed and may vary. Occasional evening events (e.g., showcases) may be requested within weekly limits.
     

  • This role is part-time, non-exempt and eligible for overtime per applicable law with prior written approval from leadership.
     

Physical Demands

​

Standing, sitting, walking, speaking, hearing, and seeing; frequent bending, reaching, and light lifting up to 30 lbs; ability to move quickly between spaces to maintain safety. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals.
